Client Context

SAP systems are rich in business data but notoriously difficult to query. Business leaders at a multinational manufacturing group were frustrated by their dependence on IT to run even basic reports. While the organization had invested in SAP S/4HANA and Google Cloud Platform (GCP), they lacked the ability to convert operational data into real-time insights.

To address this, HUB-AI designed and deployed QueryXpert — an AI-powered natural language to SQL system purpose-built for SAP S/4HANA and BigQuery. It enabled non-technical users to ask business questions in plain English and receive instant, accurate answers.

The Challenge

High reliance on SQL experts, long reporting turnaround, and no unified analytics across SAP + GCP datasets bottlenecked decision-making.

The client's operations spanned procurement, sales, quality control, production planning, and finance. Despite having centralized SAP modules and cloud-hosted data on GCP, access was bottlenecked by technical dependencies:

  • High reliance on SQL experts to run queries manually
  • Long turnaround times for generating reports
  • No unified analytics across SAP + GCP datasets
  • Low agility for decision-making in daily operations

As business questions became more complex, IT teams were stretched thin and reporting lagged behind operational needs.

Delivery Model

We delivered a proprietary solution, QueryXpert, designed to translate natural language questions into optimized SQL, access SAP data via SAP Data Intelligence and GCP BigQuery, enable live dashboards and executive summaries, and continuously learn and improve through real-time feedback loops.

Key capabilities included Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) for SAP metadata query mapping, self-healing queries with error detection and correction on the fly, a unified query hub for both SAP HANA and BigQuery, and role-based dashboards auto-generated for Sales, Ops, and Finance teams.

Phase 1 — Discovery & Data Mapping

Identified key SAP tables (MM, SD, FICO, PP, QC). Mapped SAP metadata for semantic search training. Designed intent-based query types for each department.

Phase 2 — Model Development

Built a domain-specific NL-to-SQL parser. Implemented RAG using Data Catalog + historical queries. Integrated BigQuery optimizer to improve execution latency.

Phase 3 — Integration

Connected QueryXpert to SAP Data Intelligence via API. Enabled real-time query execution across SAP and GCP. Developed dashboards for finance, sales, and operations.

Phase 4 — Rollout & Feedback Loop

Released pilot to 20+ non-technical users. Captured failed queries and retrained model weekly. Achieved >90% query resolution in under 5 seconds.
